Deep Draft Commercial Harbor

Manistee is blessed with a deep draft commercial harbor. Bulk freighters navigate the harbor mouth and river channel during the shipping season delivering coal and other products to the industries around Manistee Lake. The harbor also supports one of the most productive fisheries in the Midwest and is home to a number of charter boats.

The City has partnered with www.marinetraffic.com to provide real-time mapping of the location of freighters and other great lakes vessels.  The interactive map below shows the location of any ships in the area.  Check back often as the sight of a freighter navigating the river is something you won't want to miss
