Wastewater Collection System Rehabilitation (RD1A)
This Project’s goals include eliminating infiltration, extending the structural service life of the sanitary sewer, rehabilitating the structural defects, and improving flow capacity in the wastewater collection system. The Project consists of approximately 5.4 miles (28,400 feet) of cured in place pipe lining (CIPP) of existing 8-inch to 30-inch diameter sanitary sewer; cured in place manhole lining (CIPM) for approximately 85 structures, and removal / replacement of approximately 66 sanitary manhole frames and covers. Additional work includes trenchless spot repairs at 3 locations, and installation of 9 internal drop structures. This Project will require reduced water usage from the residents, cooperation of relocating vehicles for on-street parking, safely traveling through a detour along US-31, and potential dye testing inside the owner’s residence for service reinstatement. For the week starting 11/23/20
Work completed last week: Cured-In-Place-Pipe lining technology (CIPP) occurred on two pipes this week with one crew installing. The Contractor continued removing the 30-inch liner within the US-31 lane closure by man-entry with one small crew. Roughly 100 feet out of 353 feet has been removed thus far.
Total rehab work completed to date: Manholes rehabbed with CIPM lining technology in the project thus far: 82 / 85 structures (96.5%). Pipes rehabbed with CIPP lining technology in the project thus far: 75 / 103 pipes (72.8%).
Anticipated work this week: Cured-In-Place-Pipe lining operations are tentatively scheduled to take place this week with one crew on three pipes Monday through Wednesday. The Contractor will also continue to cut out the 30-inch liner within the US-31 lane closure by man-entry. No work is scheduled to take place on Thursday or Friday due to the holiday.
Prior to pipe lining operations, dye testing operations may be coordinated at your residence to locate sanitary sewer services within the Right-Of-Way. One of the project goals is to eliminate as many inactive sewer leads as possible to reduce infiltration into the sanitary sewer system. Homeowners shall be notified ahead of time via door hanger that lining operations will be in the vicinity of their homes. Additionally, if lining work is to occur along local streets with on-street parking, there is a possibility that temporary no parking signs will be placed by the City of Manistee due to limited working space.
Though rare, residents could experience “burping” within toilets or sinks when cleaning operations are present. Please see the sewer rehab letter posted on the City website for additional information regarding the sewer cleaning process, details about the project, and potential future dye testing procedures that may be required to occur at your residence. If your residence requires dye testing, you will be notified in advance to coordinate with the Engineer and Contractor to successfully locate your sanitary sewer lead.

This Project’s goals are to decrease flooding, lower groundwater elevations, provide stormwater outlets to relieve pressure on the sanitary sewer system, upgrade under-sized water main, repair broken sections of sanitary sewer, and reconstruct 9 blocks of City streets. This Project consists of approximately 3,900 linear feet of 12-inch to 24-inch diameter storm sewer and associated roadway improvements, reconstruction including replacement of 900 feet of water main, and sanitary sewer spot repairs throughout the City. This Project will require coordination from the residents including times of reduced water usage, cooperation of relocating vehicles for on-street parking, drive access, and reconnecting water services. Work completed last week: The site was monitored by the inspector for erosion; punch list items that were addressed by the Contractor were inspected.

This Project consists of approximately 1,070 linear feet of road reconstruction and 950 linear feet of 18-inch to 24-inch storm sewer improvements and associated drainage structures. This Project will require coordination from the residents for cooperation of relocating vehicles for on-street parking, drive access, and reconnecting water services.
