City Hall Damaged

On the morning of December 25, a fire suppression line on the third floor of City Hall burst, causing damage to the southeast area of the building, including the City Hall elevator. The City Hall elevator is out of order until further notice.

The necessary parts for the elevator repair have been ordered, however they have not yet arrived, nor do we have an estimated time for when we will receive them.  In the interim, City Council meetings will go on as scheduled with the City providing a remote access accommodation in the Police Department lobby for residents who are unable to use the staircase to access the Council Chambers on the third floor. The Police Department is the accessible entrance to City Hall. In the lobby of the Police Department there will be a virtual viewing area for the meeting which will include the ability to make public comment if requested.

For other City board and commission meetings, please contact the City Manager’s office, 231-398-2801, at least 48 hours before the meeting if the accommodation stated above is needed while our elevator is out.

City Hall has sustained water damage to all four floors. Restoration of the building will likely take months – please excuse the mess in the building while these repairs are being made. Thank you in advance for your patience.
